Bio:
Rupert Blackman is a singer and a songwriter, although whether his music fits perfectly into the “singer/songwriter” genre is up for debate. Where his previous solo work would have, nowadays he is joined on record and stage by a fixed band; Jan Schröder on guitar, Kees Dijkstra on bass and Simon Böing-Messing on drums. Their addition, alongside the further energy, colour, and personal influences that they bring, ensures that the music now sits more comfortably upon the “pop” shelf, whilst staying true to Rupert’s “singer/songwriter” roots.
Rupert and the band are currently working on a new album, to be released to coincide with their 3-week tour of Germany and The Netherlands in summer 2010. The new songs share much the same sentiment as those from their 2009 EP “If you only knew”, but somehow feel more vibrant, more accessible, more commercial.
2009 was an exciting year. They received airplay on Radio 2 (Nederland) in the run up to coming 2nd place in a national songwriting competition and performed live on BBC radio (England). They played a host of shows and festivals throughout Europe, received great reviews, built a healthy following and had no trouble shifting many copies of “If you only Knew” and Rupert’s 2007 solo album “Safe and Sound”.
2010 is the year that Rupert and the band intend to make their mark. They have spent over a year now testing the water, developing their sound, and are at the point now where they feel they, and more importantly their music, is ready to start turning heads.
